Veganuary: Nakd Nibbles

Veganuary: Nakd Nibbles
If you've been following my veggie food blog for a while or my social media then you will know that I love the Nakd bars - I've already reviewed them on my blog. I have been sent some and I have also purchased them myself as they are perfect on the go snacks. I now have the *Nakd Nibbles Mixed Case (£15.98) to try out as part of veganuary.

- Nakd Nibbles Coconut Bliss: I've tried this one before and I loved it so I am happy to have three more bags as they are basically the super healthy version of a bounty bar (bar the chocolate) but they still taste SO good. If you love coconut then you will adore these! Rating: ★★★★★, 5/5.

- Nakd Nibbles Strawberries & Cream: I knew I wouldn't like this one as much as apart from smoothies, I don't really like berry flavoured foods. They are nice, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't personally buy them. Each pack is one of your five a day and they are wheat, gluten and gluten free! Rating: ★★★☆☆, 3/5.

- Nakd Nibbles Toffee Treat: I love toffee, any kind of toffee or butterscotch - that kind of flavour is just gorgeous to me so naturally I love this flavour of Nakd Nibbles. The toffee flavour is quite sweet and a little artificial, even though it isn't, but I still love it. Rating: ★★★★☆, 4/5.

- Nakd Nibbles Tooty Fruity: Again as with the strawberries and cream flavour, I thought this wouldn't be one of my favourites but these are actually really nice, they taste like sweets I had as a child but I cannot remember what they were. They smell like berry flavoured bubblegum and they taste like mild berry tasting sweets. Rating: ★★★★☆, 4/5.

- Nakd Nibbles Fruit Salad: Another nostalgic flavour, they taste really quite similar to fruit salad sweets I had as I child but they aren't as sweet or as strongly flavoured. Again I'm surprised as they aren't as odd tasting as I thought they would be or as the name would suggest and I really like them! Rating: ★★★★☆, 4/5.

- Nakd Nibbles Mint Humbug: I'm not a fan of mint in anything, even toothpaste or mint sweets so these are definitely my least favourite from the range I have - I'm sure if you like mint sweets or hard mints then you will like these but they are definitely not for me! Rating: ★★☆☆☆, 2/5.

- Nakd Nibbles Salted Caramel: Last year I discovered the joy that is salted caramel *I know a year behind everyone else!* and I couldn't wait to try these! They are nice but they aren't as amazing as I thought they would be. I'll still definitely going to eat them and I would recommend them but they are just a little disappointing. Rating: ★★★★☆, 4/5.

Overall, I love the Nakd products, they are amazing tasting *on the whole* snacks that are full of goodies so even though they might taste sweet and naughty - they are actually healthy and one of your five a day! I'm surprised that I loved the more berry flavoured packs and my favourites have to be: toffee treat, coconut bliss, tooty fruity and salted caramel.

Food Stocking Fillers

Food Stocking Fillers
Ever since I was a child, I have always received chocolate or sweets in the christmas stocking and I still do as let's be honest, chocolate for breakfast is a christmas tradition...and why not! I usually receive a Lindt santa or chocolate orange but here are my alternative stocking filler or baking/food hamper picks!

*Mighty Fine Milk Chocolate Honeycomb Bar (£1.79, 50g each): It contains the finest handcrafted honeycomb and Belgian milk chocolate. It's made in England and it is suitable for vegetarians but not vegans. I love milk chocolate and honeycomb so this was definitely going to be a winner for me. One of my favourite chocolate bars growing up was a Crunchie bar and this is like a grown up and more refined, sophisticated Crunchie chocolate bar. I'd be very happy to receive one of these in my stocking on christmas morning!

*Nakd Christmas Pud Bar (75p, 35g): We all know that I am a big fan of the Nakd bars, I've been sent a range of them to review on my blog and I have also purchased a couple of boxes too! My favourites include: caffe mocha, cocoa crunch and pecan pie. They have now brought out a christmas bar and as with the others it is made of raw fruit and nuts, it is one of your five a day and it is 100% vegan as well as being gluten, wheat and dairy free. This bar contains dates, cashews, raisins and natural flavourings. I personally have never had a christmas pudding so I don't know if this actually tastes like one but to me it is spicy (in a cinnamon/christmasy kind of way), fruity and rich. I do like it but I personally prefer the sweeter bars on the whole.

Overall, I think both options would make great stocking fillers or baking/food hamper additions. The honeycomb bar is a lovely and delicious indulgence and the Nakd bar is festive and tasty but it is suitable for those who are vegan, lactose intolerance, coeliac and it is the much healthier option.

Have you tried either the Mighty Fine Honeycomb Bar or any of the Nakd Bars?

Nakd Raw Fruit + Nut Bars

I always struggle to find snacks, especially for on the go, that are healthy and veggie friendly but these may be the answer. I was recently sent the *Nakd Raw Fruit and Nut Bar Mixed Case (£14.99, x18 bars) which contains their newest flavour - bakewell tart. I think this mixed set is a great way of trying all of the flavours!

The flavours in this selection case are as follows: Caffe Mocha, Pecan Pie, Cocoa Orange, Berry Delight, Cocoa Mint, Cashew Cookie, Ginger Bread, Rhubarb + Custard, Cocoa Delight and Bakewell Tart. The bars are gluten, wheat and dairy free so they are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. They contain all natural ingredients/flavourings and they don't have any added sugar or syrup. The bars are great if you are looking for a source of iron rich foods, which as a vegetarian is essential.

Caffe Mocha

The first bar I tried was the Caffe Mocha flavour and it is definitely my favourite from the range. To me it tastes like coffee which I adore. This bar contains dates, cashews, raisins and cocoa, as well as a hint of natural flavouring and it's one of your five a day. I would definitely buy this one! It is really filling as well. Overall rating: ★★★★★, 5/5.

Pecan Pie

Next up is the Pecan Pie bar, which I knew I would like as pecans are my favourite nuts...this bar tastes so yummy, not exactly like a pecan pie but very moorish. The bar contains dates, pecans and almonds. I would also buy this one and it's also very filling! Overall rating: ★★★★★, 5/5.

Ginger Bread

This bar definitely tastes like gingerbread or gingerbread cookies as it contains dates, almonds, pecans, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. The texture is softer than the other bars but it's a great snack. Overall rating: ★★★★☆, 4/5.

Cashew Cookie

Another very soft and squishy bar, I don't know how well they would stay together in your handbag or on a hot day but this is a pretty nice bar. It definitely isn't my favourite as cashews are not a favourite of mine but it's still pretty good. This bar just contains cashews and dates. Overall rating: ★★★☆☆, 3/5.

Berry Delight

This one is an all round flop, none of us really liked it. It contains dates, cashews, raisins, raspberries and natural flavourings and it's one of your five a day. For us this bar is quite dry and a bit sour. Overall rating: ★★☆☆☆, 2/5.

Cocoa Orange

I'm not a fan of the combination of chocolate and orange anyway so I knew this wasn't going to be a hit for me. It is like a chocolate orange but it has the date and raisin flavours too. If you like chocolate orange flavours then this one might be for you. It contains dates, cashews, raisins and cocoa and it's one of your five a day. Overall rating: ★★★☆☆, 3/5.

Rhubarb + Custard

This flavour is quite different to the other bars and I personally prefer the more chocolate and nutty flavoured bars rather than the fruity ones. This bar is really sweet, it's like those hard boiled rhubarb and custard sweets I tried as a child. It tastes artificially sweet and flavoured to me even though it's not. It's one of your five a day; it isn't one I will be buying. Overall rating: ★☆☆☆☆, 1/5.

Cocoa Delight

This bar is really nice, I expected it to be as it's the chocolate one and who doesn't like chocolate *unless your allergic* and I would buy this one. It's one of your five a day probably because of the dates and raisins. I think it would be a great super healthy alternative to a fatty processed chocolate bar. Overall rating: ★★★★☆, 4/5.

Cocoa Mint

Another chocolate flavour and I personally like it, it tastes like after eight chocolates to me. My dad likes the flavour but he really doesn't like the texture of this bar and I can understand why they aren't for everyone but I like the texture. This bar is one of your five a day, I don't know if I would buy it but I did like trying it. Overall rating: ★★★☆☆, 3/5.

Bakewell Tart

Last but not least is their newest flavour and to be honest I also don't really like bakewell tarts as for deserts/sweet food I would prefer nutty, vanilla or chocolate flavours. The bar is definitely like a bakewell tart, it tastes so similar to one my auntie used to make. It is very marzipan flavoured with a fruity jam flavour which is what a bakewell tart is! The flavour is captured really well as it is with the rhubarb + custard and ginger bread bars. Overall rating: ★★☆☆☆, 2/5.

Overall, some of the bars are rated low solely because I personally don't like those flavours but other people may love them. I did a taste test with my parents for seven of the flavours and the lowest rating was 1/5 for the Berry Delight bar and the highest was 3/5 for the Ginger Bread, Rhubarb + Custard and Cashew Cookie bars. I personally loved the Caffe Mocha, Pecan Pie, Ginger Bread, Cashew Cookie and Cocoa Delight bars, all of which I would definitely purchase - especially the first two which are SO yummy!

Nakd have a range of other snacks including oat bars (which I'm definitely interested in trying), protein crunch bars, flapjacks, 'bits' and even infused raisins!

Have you tried the Nakd raw fruit and nut bars? If so which were your favourite?
